Dear General Public,
As we embrace the vibrant month of November, there's an unmistakable sense of excitement across our beautiful island. In less than two weeks, we will gather to celebrate and honour 249 years of Statia Day on November 16th, a moment to reflect on the unique qualities that make our island truly special. This annual celebration not only showcases our rich cultural heritage but also remind us of the potential for growth and development within our community.

In addition to this cultural milestone, we also have the joy of celebrating the birthday of one of our esteemed Island Council members.

As always, your continued dedication and active community involvement are greatly appreciated. Here's to a week filled with joy, connection and cultural pride!

Celebrating Our Island's Pride

Every year on 16 November, the people of Sint Eustatius unite to celebrate Statia Day, a proud reflection of our shared heritage, progress, and resilience.

This year, as flags are raised and the island's colours fill the streets, we take a moment to honour the unity that drives our community forward. Statia's strength lies in its people, past and present, whose dedication continues to shape a vibrant, forward-thinking island.

From the Island Council and the Registrar Team, we extend warm wishes to every Statian at home and abroad. Happy Statia Day!

Stories from the Golden Rock Edition

(1) Harbour of Legends: In the 18th century, Statia's Lower Town was so busy with trade that people joked you could walk from ship-to-ship across the harbour without touching the water. Over 100 warehouses once lined the bay, a golden era that earned us our nickname: The Golden Rock.

(2) Guardians of the Island, The Lesser Antillean Iguana: Statia is home to the Lesser Antillean Iguana, a rare species found only on a few Caribbean islands. These striking green reptiles are part of our natural heritage, often seen basking on sun-warmed rocks or blending perfectly into the island's greenery. Conservation efforts continue to protect them, ensuring that future generations can admire this unique symbol of Statia's wild beauty.

(3) The Quill, Nature's Hidden World: Did you know our volcano, The Quill, is more than just a majestic landmark? Step inside its crater and you'll find a tropical rainforest tucked away with towering trees, rare plants, and birdsong echoing through the valley. It's one of the few places in the world where you can literally hike into a volcano!
