Stories from the Golden Rock Edition
(1) Harbour of Legends: In the 18th century, Statia's Lower Town was so busy with trade that people joked you could walk from ship-to-ship across the harbour without touching the water. Over 100 warehouses once lined the bay, a golden era that earned us our nickname: The Golden Rock.
(2) Guardians of the Island, The Lesser Antillean Iguana: Statia is home to the Lesser Antillean Iguana, a rare species found only on a few Caribbean islands. These striking green reptiles are part of our natural heritage, often seen basking on sun-warmed rocks or blending perfectly into the island's greenery. Conservation efforts continue to protect them, ensuring that future generations can admire this unique symbol of Statia's wild beauty.
(3) The Quill, Nature's Hidden World: Did you know our volcano, The Quill, is more than just a majestic landmark? Step inside its crater and you'll find a tropical rainforest tucked away with towering trees, rare plants, and birdsong echoing through the valley. It's one of the few places in the world where you can literally hike into a volcano!
