Island Council Highlights June 2026

June was another active month for the Island Council, with members participating in informative sessions, community events and inter-island meetings.

During the month, Council members travelled to Sint Maarten to participate in the BES Summit, where the chairmanship for the second cycle was officially passed back to Sint Eustatius, with Councilman Glenville Schmidt as chairman and Melissa Robins-Spanner as registrar.
The Council also travelled to Saba to attend the Farewell Ceremony for Island Governor Jonathan Johnson, recognizing his dedicated service.

Throughout the month several closed-door information sessions were held with the Executive Council, government departments and stakeholders. The Council received updates and discussed various topics such as Solar Park, Racetrack, Boulevard Phase 2, and other ongoing developments on Sint Eustatius.

Council members also participated in a guided site visit with the archaeologist to learn about the ongoing research and planned reburial of the 69 ancestral remains.

In addition, members of the Island Council proudly attended the 10 Most Remarkable Teens Awards, celebrating young people who have demonstrated leadership, talent, and a strong commitment to the community.
