On December 23, 2021, the Statia Island Council adopted a motion promoting collaboration among political parties due to ongoing conflicts and a lack of consensus with the Government Commissioner. This led to a mediation process facilitated by former Prime Ministers Suzy Camelia-Römer and Maria Liberia Peters, supported by former Curaçao Ombudsman Alba Martijn.

Following the mediation, the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD) began supporting dialogue efforts on Statia in February 2022. To enhance local engagement, NIMD appointed Dr. Rachnilda (Nilda) Arduin as regional facilitator.
