Why Does This Matter To You?

Ever wondered how decisions made today can shape Statia's tomorrow?

The Multi-Annual Budget 2027–2030 is more than just numbers on paper. It sets out the financial framework for the island's development over the next four years.

From maintaining roads and improving public facilities to supporting community initiatives and essential services, the budget plays an important role in determining how public resources are allocated.

By discussing the proposed budget, members of the Central Committee have an opportunity to ask questions, examine priorities and seek clarification before matters proceed to the Island Council for decision-making.

Your island. Your future. Your Council.

Behind the Scenes

Bringing Democracy Closer to the Community!

The Registrar's Office continues to promote civic education and democratic participation through initiatives that encourage learning, leadership and community involvement.

While the Civic Education Programme introduced pupils to the fundamentals of democracy, the Democracy Academy (20–22 October) provided residents with practical knowledge and skills in campaigning, effective island representation, conflict resolution, dialogue and negotiation.

Through interactive sessions and discussions, participants explored ways to communicate effectively, navigate differences and contribute meaningfully to democratic processes.

Democracy thrives when people are informed, engaged and empowered to participate!

Did you Know?

What Is the Role of the Court of Audit?
Did you know that Sint Eustatius has an independent Court of Audit (Rekenkamer)?

The Court of Audit examines how public funds are managed and whether government resources are used lawfully, efficiently and effectively.

Its findings and recommendations help strengthen transparency, accountability and good governance.

Unlike the Island Council, which makes political decisions and oversees the Executive Council, the Court of Audit conducts independent investigations and reports on its findings.

Good governance is not only about making decisions, but also about ensuring accountability for those decisions.
