Honouring Ms. Sophia Mary Busby

On 19 September 2024, Councilman Clyde van Putten presented a motion titled "Ms Sophia Mary Busby", as she celebrated her 105th birthday.

Voting result: 4 in favour - 0 Against
Outcome: Adopted. On 16 November 2024, the motion was carried out by the Executive Council.

Prostate Cancer Awareness Month 2026

September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month: a time to encourage open conversations about men’s health.

Early awareness matters. Men are encouraged to learn about their personal risk, attend regular health checks and speak with a healthcare professional about whether prostate cancer screening is appropriate for them.

Let us continue to support those affected and remind the men in our community that taking care of their health is a sign of strength.

On 14 September, Commissioner Reuben Merkman and Island Registrar Mrs Melissa Robins-Spanner will celebrate their birthdays.

The Registrar’s Office and Island Council extend warm birthday wishes to them both and recognise their continued dedication, leadership and service to the people of Sint Eustatius.

A Fresh Look for the Vincent A. Lopes Legislative Hall (Government Guest House)

Repair and improvement works are currently underway at the Government Guest House. The ongoing facelift will help refresh the building and improve the overall appearance of this important public facility.

Statia Delegation Visits Bonaire

A delegation from the Island Council of Sint Eustatius recently visited Bonaire to participate in the BES Summit, a bilateral meeting between Bonaire and Sint Eustatius, and the official Bonaire Day celebrations.

These engagements provided opportunities to exchange ideas, discuss matters of shared interest and further strengthen cooperation between the islands.

More information on the visit and its outcomes will be shared in an official press release on 9 September 2026.

The Island Council of Sint Eustatius extends warm congratulations to the people of Bonaire on the celebration of Bonaire Day. May Bonaire’s rich culture, heritage and community spirit continue to be celebrated and preserved for generations to come.
