September Meeting's at a Glance
Registrar Notice: Birthday Spotlight
International Senior Citizen Day

Dear General Public,
September brought thoughtful questions, important discussions and decisions for the Island Council. One question stayed with us: how can children’s own voices help shape conversations about their wellbeing and safe places to play?

In this issue, we take you inside the September meetings and share the moments worth knowing about. We’re also celebrating a birthday, taking a little inspiration from the Health & Sport Expo, and recognising the seniors whose stories are woven into life on Statia.

Make yourself comfortable and enjoy Issue 3 of the Office Insider!

September's Meetings at a Glance

The Central Committee met on 10 September to discuss matters before the Island Council. An extraordinary Island Council meeting followed on 14 September on separate business. At its meeting on 17 September, the Island Council considered items arising from the 10 September Central Committee meeting. Here are the key outcomes.

Central Committee meeting 10 September 2026

Child Friendly Cities Initiative

The Policy Officer for Youth, Sport and Social Support, gave a presentation on the Child Friendly Cities Initiative.

Following the presentation, Council Lady Raquel Spanner-Carty asked whether the Council could receive a summary of what children think and what keeps them busy, to compare with the mental wellbeing and safe play spaces.

Ms Smith said that children’s voices would be taken into consideration again, in the training as well. She noted that reports had previously been produced on what children feel and think, mentioned research by PAHO, and said she would share the reports with the Council once she obtained them.

This item was for information only and was not forwarded to the Island Council meeting on 17 September 2026.

Court of Audit Budget 2027

A representative of the Court of Audit gave a presentation on its proposed budget for 2027.

Council Lady Raquel Spanner-Carty thanked the Court for making the changes requested at an earlier meeting and for providing an overview of the previous budget. As members had already met with the Court of Audit, the Central Committee raised no further questions.

The item was forwarded to the Island Council meeting on 17 September 2026 for decision-making.

Tips: Health & Wellness

As the Health & Sport Expo 2026 wraps up here on Sint Eustatius, it’s a good moment to think about the small habits that help us feel our best. Staying well does not have to mean changing everything at once. Try choosing one step you can make part of your day:

  • Move in a way you enjoy. A walk, a dance or a game with family all count.
  • Drink water regularly, especially when you are active or spending time outdoors.
  • Make time to rest. Sleep and short breaks help you recharge.
  • Check in with someone. A conversation with a friend, colleague or family member can make a difference.

Your wellness tip for this week: Pick one habit from the list and give it a try. Small steps can become lasting routines.
