A new month brings fresh opportunities, important engagements and more moments worth sharing.

Early Detection Matters! 🎀

October is a reminder to prioritize our health and raise awareness about breast cancer, which can affect both women and men.
Being familiar with how your breasts normally look and feel can help you recognise unusual changes.

A Few Healthy Reminder:

  • Know your body: Pay attention to unusual lumps, swelling or changes in breast appearance.
  • Don't ignore changes: Consult a healthcare professional if you notice anything unusual.
  • Stay informed: Ask your healthcare provider about appropriate breast cancer screening based on your age and personal risk.
  • Support one another: Encourage open conversations and show compassion to those affected by breast cancer.

Remember: Taking care of your health is not a luxury; it's a priority. Small steps towards awareness can make a meaningful difference.

Your health matters. Make time for YOU!💗

Did you Know?

What is an Ordinance?
Ever wondered about the difference?

An ordinance is a local law or regulation established by the Public Entity Sint Eustatius to govern matters affecting our island and its community.

Ordinances may be proposed by the Executive Council or members of the Island Council and must be adopted through a vote by the Island Council.

What do ordinances cover?

They can address various aspects of everyday life, including:

  • 🏘️ Land use and building regulations
  • 🔊 Noise control
  • 🚦 Traffic and parking
  • 🛡️ Public safety
  • 🌿 Environmental protection
  • 🐾 Animal control
  • 📋 Business licensing

Legal Basis: Article 149 of the WolBES provides the Island Council with the authority to establish island ordinances.

Why does it matter?

Ordinances help establish clear local rules, protect community interests and contribute to a safe, organised and sustainable Sint Eustatius.

Civic Education Returns for a Second Year!

Learning Democracy Through Experience!

From 6-9 October 2026, pupils from Groups 7 & 8 of Statia's four primary schools participated in the second year of the Civic Education Programme.

Through the interactive Democracity simulation, pupils stepped into the roles of elected representatives, learning about democracy. teamwork, negotiation and decision-making.

A highlight was seeing returning Group 8 pupils apply knowledge gained during last year's programme!

“We may encounter many defeats, but we must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it."— Maya Angelou
